Mystery surrounds death of man found injured on Sydney footpath

Police are investigating after a man was found critically injured on a footpath in Sydney's south overnight.

The man was discovered just after 12.20am on Maloney Street in Eastlakes.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the man died shortly after.

He is yet to be formally identified.

Police, with the assistance of the homicide squad, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

A crime scene has been established.
