A man from Penwortham is planning to run seven marathons in seven days for charity.

Father of two, Bob Milton, is aiming to raise as much money as he can for a charity called ‘Hope for Justice’ which aims to end modern-day slavery.

He decided to take on the challenge after attending his local church, Crossgate Church in Preston city centre last year.

Bob said: “I heard about modern-day slavery and how slaves are trapped on our doorsteps here in Preston.

“As you can imagine this just blew my mind, and the cogs started turning as to how I can help in any small way.

“The hope is to raise as much money as possible, to free as many people as possible from modern-day slavery.”

Although Bob admits he hasn’t always been a runner, he said he’s always been active.

“Over the last few years, I’ve set myself different challenges and running ventures to push myself physically and mentally.

“I started running just as a way to keep fit once I’d finished playing football, starting off running 5km and quickly seeing how far I could go with it. I’ve run 100km before in one go and ran back-to-back marathons, but that’s about it, so this will be a big step up from that.

“I wanted to pick something that I knew would be a physical and mental challenge and in some ways feels what it like to suffer, as many of the people trapped in slavery are suffering daily.”

Although Bob is recovering from a broken toe, he is hoping to start running again in the next few weeks – ready for his challenge to begin on 14 April.

He will be running different routes each day, including the Guild Wheel, laps around the track at UCLan and courses which Bob has marked out around Preston, Leyland and Chorley.

Bob also plans to spend one day running in Ormskirk with his friends who are based there.
