They have taken to social media to voice their disapproval at the change and are calling for the return of the old version.
“Bring back the original Trader Joe’s Enchilada Sauce.
“The “ New, improved with a kick” is a huge disappointment – taste like sour tomato sauce, with a bite,” claimed one shopper who went on to ask:
“When you have a hit, why do you discontinue the product?”
The post on Facebook group Trader Joe’s Discontinued, attracted comments from fans who feel the same about the shake-up.
Though a few people did admit they like the new sauce, the majority were against it.
“My ex-mother in law would be rolling in her grave,” said one woman.
“Water and tomato paste are not even the base to even make the sauce at all, they don’t use the correct chili peppers…and try to use 3 others that don’t belong, there is no vinegar in it…no sugar.”
Another commented: “I loved their old enchilada sauce. I haven’t been able to get to a trader Joe’s in a while.
“Disappointed to hear they’ve discontinued it and replaced it with something that sucks.”
While another shopper exclaimed: “I had two recipes that depended upon it and I am desperate! The new one is completely different.
“Definitely not a substitute and there’s too much of it as well.”
A couple of people pointed out that the disappearance could be down to a supplier issue.
Discontinued Trader Joe's Products
Several Trader Joe's items have been discontinued over the years, including:
- Matcha Joe-Joe’s
- Chile Lime Mayonnaise
- Frozen Spinach Lasagna
- Banana Waffles
- Salted Caramel Gelato
- Island Salsa
- Cookie Butter Cheesecake
- Chili Sesame Oil
- Hi-Protein Veggie Burger
In answer the original poster said: “They didn’t give me a reason why the original was no longer on the shelf. Just kept pushing me to buy the new unimproved.
“Instead of putting what is now “out of production”, listen to customer feedback.
DISCONTINUED DISMAY
Customers have appealed to Trader Joe’s to bring back a host of food products recently.
The American retail chain regularly discontinues products while introducing new ones, but this doesn’t always go down well with customers.
Because the company sells own-label brands, shoppers’ favorites can be impossible to find elsewhere if they disappear from the shelves.
The new year has seen its popular Cheese Pastry Rolls vanish from stores, leaving some customers distraught.
“They were yummy happiness,” wrote one fan on social media.
Meanwhile, the disappearance of Trader Joe’s frozen Cheese Blintzes also left shoppers sad.
The cheese filled crepes disappeared in December, with customers forced to turn to other retailers, such as Costco and ShopRite to find replacements.
