President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to BRICS countries, cautioning against any attempts to replace the US dollar as the dominant global currency. He has threatened to impose 100% tariffs on nations that back alternative currencies.
In his statement, Trump declared, “The idea that the BRICS countries are trying to move away from the dollar, while we stand by and watch, is over.”
He emphasised that the US would demand a commitment from these countries to neither create a BRICS currency nor support any other currency replacing the US dollar. Failure to comply, he warned, would result in punitive tariffs and the end of access to the US economy.
Trump further remarked, “They can go find another sucker nation. There is no chance that BRICS will replace the US dollar in international trade, or anywhere else, and any country that tries should say hello to tariffs, and goodbye to America!”
This move comes amid growing efforts by BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—to explore alternatives to the US dollar in global trade and finance.
