Wendy’s reveals location, opening date of first Australian store

US fast food giant Wendy's is set to open its first store in Australia tomorrow as a part of a major expansion.

The chain signed a deal in 2023 to rollout the new restaurants in Australia, with the goal to open 200 venues by 2034, following a successful pop-up event in Sydney.

The first store will be located on Cavill Avenue in Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast.

Available on the menu will be US favourites the Classic Double, Baconmator and Spicy Chicken Sandwich, as well as the double hand-breaded chicken tenders.

Wendy's also say they will use 100 per cent Australian-sourced beef and chicken.

Master franchisee Flynn Restaurant Group, which took over all 260 Pizza Hut restaurants in Australia in Junealso operates hundreds of Wendy's, Taco Bell, Arby's, Applebee's and Panera venues in the United States as a franchisee.

It's not the chain's first attempt to compete with established fast food giants such as McDonald's, KFC and Burger King or Hungry Jack's in Australia.

Wendy's opened its first Australian store in Melbourne in 1982 and had as many as 11 locations before collapsing.
