Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has called for increased collaboration between the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the state to enhance security and eliminate criminal elements.

Governor Oyebanji made the call on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the new Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Brigadier-General Justin Ifeanyi, to his office in Ado-Ekiti. He emphasized that strengthened military cooperation would complement the efforts of other security agencies already operating in the state.

The Governor noted that the synergy among security chiefs in Ekiti had contributed significantly to the state’s reputation as the most peaceful in Nigeria. He urged Brigadier-General Ifeanyi to uphold and build on this collaboration, which has facilitated effective intelligence sharing and joint operations.

“While the state enjoys relative peace, pockets of criminal activities still persist,” Governor Oyebanji said, highlighting the importance of a unified approach to address these challenges. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring Ekiti remains the safest state in the country and assured Brigadier-General Ifeanyi of the government’s full support.

“As a government, we are grateful to the Nigerian Army, your sacrifices, your gallantry in ensuring that we have a secured country, without your efforts it would have been worse than this, we are extremely grateful for this,” the Governor said. He also expressed confidence in the newly appointed Brigade Commander, stating, “I am happy you are the one they are bringing back here.”

Governor Oyebanji continued, emphasising the need for continued cooperation, saying, “Ekiti State has been adjudged to be the most peaceful state in the country, but we still have some criminal elements around.
The beauty of Ekiti’s situation is that there is a kind of synergy between all the security chiefs in the state, they work hand in hand, share intelligence, share information.”

Brigadier-General Ifeanyi, in his remarks, assured the Governor that the Nigerian Army would intensify efforts to combat crime and ensure lasting peace in Ekiti State.

The meeting was attended by several top officials, including Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro; Chief of Staff, Mr. Oyeniyi Adebayo; Special Adviser on Security, Brigadier-General Ebenezer Ogundana (Rtd); Special Adviser (Media), Mr. Yinka Oyebode; Garrison Commander, Col. Kyari Babakura; and Operation Officer, Ekiti State, Captain Daniel Yusuf.
