Three new names will be appearing on Blog Preston with writing about the city’s history, cinema and culture scene.
Beth Mairs brings a return for a regular Sunday evening history and nostalgia slot lifting the lid on some well-known, and not so well known, elements of the city’s heritage.
While Ben Gibbons is writing a weekly look at all things cinema, as a new city centre cinema opens, so there’s plenty for movie fans to enjoy.
And Ellie Browning will keep you updated on what’s happening in the city and take our news and stories onto YouTube and all our other social media platforms – as we know our readers also like to scroll and view as much as they do read a written version of our stories.

Beth, who works for a digital agency in Preston and lives in the city, said: “I studied English and History at University and during this time I also led workshops for nearby schools. These commonly involved members of the local community and led me to become very passionate about encouraging others to be more aware of their city’s history.
“Originally from Yorkshire, I am especially interested in the history of northern England and amplifying previously overlooked voices.”
Ben Gibbons is an entertainment journalist who has worked for a variety of sites such as Screen Rant, Collider, and Screensphere.
Ben’s passion for all things film, TV, and gaming has blossomed from a hobby into his full-time career, helping him to provide for his family who reside in Preston. Though Ben was born and raised in Ireland, he has made a life here for the last 10 years, and is keen to contribute to Blog Preston covering the developing cinema scene, local film festivals and all things culture related.
Ellie Browning is from Lancaster and is currently a third-year journalism student at UCLan.
Ellie focuses on our social media content filming and editing footage and going to lots of events in the community. She also was one of the producers of The Parched Pea Podcast.
She loves all things showbiz, TV and music and goes to a range of concerts and celebrity events such as Comic Cons in the city.
As a Community Interest Company, Blog Preston is committed to re-investing money made back into more writing about the city and its communities.
Co-editor Kate Rosindale who leads on writing about the city’s arts, culture and what’s on scene said: “I’m really pleased that we’re able to welcome more new voices to the Blog Preston lineup of contributors.
“We’ve had a great reaction to bringing Ben Briggs, Jamie Lopez and Louise Gooch on board last year, and this will only help strengthen what we do across a variety of topics helping us appeal to an even wider audience.
“I’ve enjoyed Beth, Ben and Ellie’s work so far and am excited to see what else they bring to Blog Preston.”
