A Preston pub close to the city’s university is set for a major revamp.

Greene King has tabled plans for The Guild pub in Fylde Road, Ashton-on-Ribble.

Works to the inside and outside of the pub, including its beer garden, are proposed.

Documents from Boyer Planning say the revamp is needed to ‘ensure the public house will remain a vibrant attraction within the community while assisting to retain and attract new patrons’.

The pub is grade-II listed and was formerly known as Moss Cottage when it was a Cotton manufacturers house dating back to 1818.

It was built for William Taylor who was the manager of Horrock’s Moss Mill and the owner of the former Tulketh Mill.

Boyer Planning say any internal alterations are described as ‘modest’ while the plans for outside include removing the current children’s play area and putting in a new updated beer garden.

Two planning applications have been lodged – one covering the need for the heritage of the building to be covered as it is listed and the other a standard planning application.

Blog Preston contacted Greene King for further details about the proposed revamp but received no response by the time of publication.
