With Montreal still digging its way out from Thursday’s massive snowstorm — the biggest of the season so far — we’re already bracing for another round of fresh snow this weekend.

It’s almost as if winter heard we were getting comfortable and decided to keep things interesting.

Thursday’s storm dropped around 30 cm of snow on the city, turning Montreal into a winter wonderland (or a snow-covered obstacle course, depending on how you see it).

The good news? Snowfall eased up by Friday morning, allowing for a cold but manageable Valentine’s Day. The bad news? Sunday’s storm is creeping up fast.

According to The Weather Network‘s latest forecast, Sunday’s storm could kick off in the morning with 5 to 10 cm. But things may ramp up fast by afternoon with another 15 to 20 cm expected. Temperatures should hover around -12 C in the morning (feeling closer to -22 C with the wind chill) and warm up to -9 C later in the day — if you can call that warm. Strong winds gusting up to 53 km/h will make visibility sketchy at times, especially in open areas.

By Sunday evening, the snow keeps coming, adding another possible 10 cm to the mix, and more strong winds. Overnight, we’re set to get 1 to 3 cm of light snow, and Monday morning could bring scattered flurries and chilly winds before things finally calm down in the afternoon.

It’s safe to say Montrealers should gear up for another round of shovelling, slow commutes, and towering snowbanks by Monday. And if you’re planning on heading out Sunday, keep an eye on road conditions and plan for some delays.

For now, expect cold air and strong winds heading into Friday and Saturday, with temperatures dropping below -20 C with the wind chill. Spring may be near, but one thing’s for sure: Montreal’s winter isn’t done showing off just yet.
