One person died in a fresh shooting at the Clemenceau metro station in the Anderlecht district of Brussels Saturday night, according to several media reports.

The Brussels public prosecutor confirmed the death of a 19-year-old to the Belga news agency on Sunday. The perpetrators are still on the run.

The shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents linked to drug gangs fighting over territory that have rocked the Belgian capital. The situation has escalated in recent weeks and caused two fatalities.

The Brussels prosecutor’s office appointed an investigating judge for murder after the incident on Saturday. It linked the killing to drug trafficking.

“We must intensify judicial investigations to dismantle the networks and those pulling the strings,” Brussels prosecutor Julien Moinil told Belga.

Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin said that “new and strict measures” are needed. An emergency meeting is scheduled for Monday morning with the federal police and interior ministry.

Anderlecht Mayor Fabrice Cumps said following the incident that “this demonstrates that these criminals are undeterred,” as the killing took place “despite police presence 70 meters away.”

On Feb. 5, a shooting paralyzed part of the Brussels metro network for most of the day as the perpetrators fled via the subway tunnels.
