The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has vowed to take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about its brand and operations.
The company warned that those engaged in such malicious activities will be “held fully accountable under the law.”
NNPC’s warning came in a statement issued on Saturday by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, following the circulation of a viral video that falsely claims its fuel does not last. The company dismissed the allegation as “baseless and entirely unfounded,” stating that the claims were based on “unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight.”
Reaffirming the quality of its petroleum products, NNPC Ltd assured consumers that its fuel is formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability. It further emphasised that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at its Lagos retail stations—where the misleading video originated—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which operates under strict industry standards.
The statement read, “NNPC Ltd reaffirms that its fuel is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers.
“Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this deceptive video was created—is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security. Dangote Refinery adheres to strict industry standards, guaranteeing the quality of petroleum products supplied to our consumers.
“This misleading video represents yet another desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and tarnish NNPC Ltd’s reputation. We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians.
“Henceforth, NNPC Ltd will take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about our brand and operations. Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law.”
NNPC then urged the public to rely on verified sources for accurate information, stressing its commitment to ensuring fuel availability, affordability, and quality while upholding global industry standards.
