A popular footpath near the Old Tram Bridge construction site is to close for a year.
Work on the replacement bridge resumes during March and Preston City Council is warning of the Old Tram Road footpath closure.
The public will not be able to use the footpath from 10 March until Spring 2026.
The footpath had been re-opened for the winter months while work on the bridge site was paused.
The Old Tram Bridge was closed in February 2019 due to safety concerns and a campaign to re-open it saw a combined effort by the city council, South Ribble Borough Council and Lancashire County Council secure funds for a replacement bridge.
Demolition of the former tram bridge took place last summer – taking place faster than expected due to the condition of the old bridge – before work stopped due to the winter months.

The first of two in-river piers was put in place before work paused.
The new bridge is due to be completed by the end of 2025.
