BBC Radio 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins is bringing his Awesome Friends live club night to The Ferret in Preston.

Curated and hosted by the DJ, Awesome Friends is about championing the best new and breaking artists and bands at events and festivals across the country, including SXSW, Kendal Calling, and Band On The Wall.

Chris, who will perform a DJ set on the night, is known for championing alternative anthems and fresh sounds. He was an early supporter of Sam Fender, Wet Leg and The Lathums, now all headline performers. Awesome Friends serves as a platform for the same emerging, grassroots acts and those destined to be future musical heavyweights.

The Ferret’s Matt Fawbert said: “Awesome Friends is a dynamic, vibrant live club night that features the most exhilarating up and coming acts and those next in line to dominate headline spots across the world.

“This could be the next Manchester’s Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1976, Glasgow’s King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in 1993 or Sheffield’s The Grapes Pub in 2003 – and you’ll have the distinction of saying ‘I was there’.”

Who is on the bill

congratulations

congratulations
congratulations

congratulations are four friends who found each other at the right time, fell into each other’s arms and started making music they liked; boasting an impressive array of different influences, unashamedly intertwined into their songs. Think girl/boy centred vocals and eccentric fuzzed guitars lying on a bed of break beats and thunderous bass.

Martial Arts’ intense live performances quickly caught the eyes and ear of a key few. With shows for Akoustik Anarkhy, So Young Magazine, Speedy Wunderground, Now Wave and Beyond The Music Festival achieved through word of mouth alone, the five-piece have emerged as a must-see band from the Manchester underground.

Holly Head

Committed and controversial, Manchester’s rising, kinetic, beat-powered punk four-piece, Holly Head take notoriety as a signal of connected audience sympathies and ride on the right side of history. Last year’s debut release of the band’s unrelenting debut, No Gain, rushed Holly Head to the front of a proactive, politically-motivated creative community.
