A 13-year-old has recalled the moment she was struck by a car that then allegedly drove off, leaving her lying injured on a road in north-west Adelaide.

The year 9 Seaton High student had stepped off a bus on West Lakes Boulevard in Hendon, just metres from her home, and crossed the road onto the median strip when she was struck about 4.30pm yesterday.

"All I remember is the car hitting me and I went bang and I fell so I couldn't see anything," she told 9News.

A 13-year-old has recalled the moment she was struck by a car that then allegedly drove off, leaving her lying injured on a road in north-west Adelaide.

"I was just in shock. I was like, is this a dream?"

The woman driving the car allegedly stopped but then drove off.

"At least the basic human thing to do is to stop and to see if any medical attention is required," the girl's father Ravi Kanugodu said.

Other drivers witnessed the incident and raced to help the girl.

"As soon as they saw it happen, they got out of their car and rushed to help me. I think a nurse also got down and was with me until the ambulance arrived," the girl said.

"The situation was handled by strangers stopping by so the good thing is there are good people around," Kanugodu said.

The girl was taken to hospital with a fractured pelvis and lacerations to her leg and head.

Police said they found the MG SUV today in Seaton with damage to the headlight and mirror.

The alleged driver, a 68-year-old woman, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, due care and fail to report collision.

She has been issued a 12-month instant loss of licence and has been bailed to face Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 25.

Police are still searching for witnesses who may have captured the vehicle on dashcam or CCTV footage and urge them to contact them.
