On Thursday it was announced that Kelce‘s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, will be presenting an award at the iconic Grammy Awards show.
However, the 35-year-old will not be attending the event.
According to TMZ, Kelce has chosen to prioritise his Super Bowl preparation ahead of attendance at the Grammys.
The 67th annual Grammys will be taking place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
But Kelce is practising in Kansas City, more than 1,600 miles (2,000km) away.
With the prestigious event, which celebrates achievements in the music industry, often falling around the time of the Super Bowl, it is not the first time Kelce has been forced to miss out.
He was a notable absentee last year as the Chiefs prepared to face the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
Kelce’s decision proved to be justified last year as the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls.
And he will be hoping his decision is once again validated this year as the Chiefs aim to become the first franchise in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.
Kelce and Swift, who started dating in late summer 2023, shared a kiss on the field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night after the Chiefs’ victory over the Buffalo Bills to win the AFC Championship.
Meanwhile, it is expected that Swift will be present at the Super Bowl next week.
There has been widespread speculation that it could be Kelce’s last-ever game.
Kelce has previously confessed his thoughts on retirement “change every single day,” but he also says he has not dwelled on the decision ahead of the Super Bowl.
He added: “I love everything that I’m doing in this building, but at the end of the day I’m not having that extreme success on the field as I have individually…
“I’ll reevaluate it like I always do, and I’ll probably tell myself how much I love this thing and I’ll come back next year.”
Swift is nominated for the Grammys top prize – Album of the Year – after concluding her record-breaking Eras Tour.
She is looking to break her own record by winning it for a fifth time, with four previous wins in 2010 (Fearless), 2016 (1989), 2021 (Folklore) and 2024 (Midnights).
Her main competition this year is expected to be Beyonce with “Renaissance” and Billie Eilish with “‘Hit Me Hard and Soft”.
It is not clear which award the 35-year-old singer will be presenting.
