ALL US Postal Service branches are to close for one day only next week.

The nationwide shutdown is in line with a federal holiday that the country will mark next week.

USPS branches will fall silent on February 17 in line with President’s Day.

But, Americans needn’t despair as Amazon and FedEx parcels will still be delivered.

It will be the fourth time that USPS branches will have closed this year for 24 hours.

Stores were closed on New Year’s Day and they fell silent on the day of Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Branches shut their doors on Martin Luther King Day – January 20.

The USPS will not be the only organization impacted by the President’s Day closures.

The stock exchange and most schools across the US will also be closed.

The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will resume trading the following day – February 18.

But, grocery stores are set to remain open.

This means Walmart or Target shoppers do not have to stockpile groceries in advance.

President’s Day is celebrated on the third Monday of February.

And, it was originally known as Washington’s Birthday – who was born on February 11.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12.

But, not all states refer to the holiday as President’s Day.

DIFFERENT NAMES

Georgians and Americans in Illinois observe the federal holiday as Washington’s Birthday.

In Alabama, President’s Day is marked as George Washington/Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday.

This is despite the fact that Thomas Jefferson, the country’s 3rd president, was born in April 1743.

Not all states recognize President’s Day as a holiday.

This includes states like Florida, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

And, not all states mark President’s Day on the third Monday of February.

In New Mexico, the day is commemorated on the day after Thanksgiving.
