
Emergency services and enforcement officers were in Plungington Road throughout Wednesday morning and lunchtime carrying out raids.
Badged as a ‘day of action’ several shops were visited with illegal goods seized and arrests made over suspected immigration offences – at premises focused in and around the Hammond Street turn area.
Preston Police sent officers from its neighbourhood team into Plungington alongside Trading Standards and Immigration officers, supported by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, and housing and environmental health officers from Preston City Council.
Two arrests were made by immigration officers, a large quantity of illicit tobacco and vapes worth around £2,000 were seized and a vehicle was seized for no insurance.
Six stop and searches took place and a man arrested for possession of a class B drug with intent to supply.
A further arrest was made for possession of a knife.
A police spokesperson said: “These action days help us to understand the issues facing our communities, and we can help to solve them and take action if necessary.
“We visited several premises and tested compliance with the accompanying agencies.”
