Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is urging Donald Trump not to impose sweeping tariffs on the EU this week.

“You have friends and trusted allies from Portugal to Poland, from Denmark to Greece. In our common European-American interest are strong U.S., strong EU, and a strong NATO, not weaker,” Tusk told the United States president in a video posted on X on Monday.

“Think about it, Mr. President and dear American friends, before you decide to impose tariffs against your closest allies. Cooperation is always better than confrontation,” he added.

His comments came shortly after Poland signed a $2 billion contract with the U.S. to provide logistical support for its Patriot missile-defense systems.

Tusk pointed out that Poland is investing almost 5 percent of its GDP in defense, which is the most any NATO member currently spends, in order to defend border and common values and interests.

Trump is set to impose tariffs on EU goods on Wednesday, a day he has dubbed “Liberation Day.” Those reciprocal duties will likely take the form of a flat percentage for the EU, based on the trade barriers the bloc imposes on U.S. exports.
