A new charity walk in Preston is set to cover 15 miles and 15 pubs for Lancashire Mind.

Preston Sup n Mooch is the creation of four Prestonians – Chris, Rachel, Lauren and Jack – who were inspired by similar walks such as the long-running Longridge 20/20.

Speaking to Blog Preston, Fulwood-born Whittingham resident Jack said: “We’re passionate about supporting local businesses and came up with the idea of a pub walk in order to raise some money for charity.

“We decided on Lancashire Mind, as we also look to promote outdoor exercise for the importance of mental health.”

The walk, which will take place on Saturday 31 May, is being billed as a unique way to make a difference while enjoying the scenery and pub culture of Preston.

Jack is keen to emphasise that the event will have a friendly community vibe, and won’t be based on excessive alcohol consumption.

“It’s definitely not just a massive pub crawl,” said Jack.

“We’re expecting people will continue past some of the pubs, and stop at others for food.

“And although there may be larger pubs named on the route for logistical reasons, we’d also encourage people to try out the smaller venues nearby. It’s a great chance to discover new places.”

While exact details are to be confirmed, it’s expected walkers will head north from starting point Chew’s Yard towards Fulwood, before turning west to Ashton and completing an anti-clockwise circuit via Penwortham and the city centre.

The route will finish back at Chew’s Yard in Market Street West, which is the location of the first Preston Sup n Mooch ticket event.

“We wanted to do some in-person ticket nights so we can meet and socialise with anyone who is interested in joining the challenge.

“The whole Sup n Mooch team will be live and in person, and people can grab tickets by cash or card, or just come and have a chat with us.”

With Longridge 20/20 coming into its 31st year, Jack and the team are hoping this could be the first of many charity walks.

“Ideally we’d like to raise as much money as possible. But we understand the limitations to doing something new, so we’re hoping that if it can be a success then we’ll be able to make this a yearly thing.

“Who knows, in the future we could have Preston Sup n Mooch badges, t-shirts, or even a beer.”

The Preston Sup n Mooch ticket event takes place at Chew’s Yard on Thursday 13 March from 6pm to 9.30pm. The walk itself is set for Saturday 31 May. Tickets, priced at £15, are also available online from TicketTailor.
