A shopping centre in Preston was briefly evacuated this morning after threats were made over social media.

Police were called to St George’s Shopping Centre at 9.16am (6 March) after being informed of the evacuation.

Shoppers reported being evacuated from Marks & Spencer within St George’s with staff reportedly telling them there had been a bomb threat.

However, the evacuation was brief and shoppers were soon allowed to return to the shopping centre with police confirming there was no risk to the public.

A spokesperson for police said: “At 9.16am today (6 March) we were called to a report that St George’s Shopping Centre in Preston, had been evacuated after one of its tenants had received threats over social media.

“Our officers have attended and established that there was no risk to the wider public and the shopping centre has since fully re-opened.

“Work is ongoing to establish the origin of the threat and take the appropriate action.”

“Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 295 of 6th March 2025.”
