The project is set to be completed ahead of the 80th anniversary of VE Day on 8 May.

They aim to turn the memorial currently experiencing fading and discolouration into a more durable product making names more straightforward to read.

‘Chorley Remembers’ project manager, Steve Williams said: “We must never forget the service and sacrifice of those named on the memorial. The work on the memorial, with the names highlighted in gold letters, will ensure that the fallen will be on display for many more years to come.”

Originally opened in 1924, the Chorley memorial marks the sacrifices of the soldiers, however, it wasn’t until 2012 when MP Sir Lindsay Hoyle, secured funding to add 738 names to the memorial.

Chorley Council are also providing a VE Day 80 Proclamation on 8 May, to continue to honour those who died in the war.
