A Dallas Cowboys icon, whom owner Jerry Jones shared his displeasure about departing in 2023, has decided to retire.

Longtime left tackle Tyron Smith has called it quits and will do so as a member of the Cowboys.

The 14-year NFL veteran will sign a one-deal with the Cowboys on Wednesday after playing 13 seasons with the team, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The only season that didn’t see Smith rock a Cowboys jersey came in his last year in the NFL in 2024, as he joined the New York Jets.

He started 10 games for Gang Green before suffering a season-ending neck injury and signaling the end of his career.

Smith meant a lot to the Cowboys as he made the Pro Bowl eight times for the squad.

The 34-year-old was also named a first-team All-Pro twice and a second-team All-Pro three times.

After Smith signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract that was worth up to $20 million in total through incentives, the longtime Jones spoke about his departure.

Jones revealed that the decision was based on the team’s salary-cap situation and that he “hated” to part ways with Smith.

“You can imagine the relationship we’ve got with Tyron and how much both of us hated to do,” Jones said.

“It was just like it was with DeMarcus Ware. We both hated it. But it just wasn’t there.”

Jones referenced the fact that the Cowboys parted ways with linebacker DeMarcus Ware in 2014.

Smith started all 171 career games he played.

During his time with the Cowboys, he protected the blindside of quarterbacks Tony Romo and Dak Prescott.

As a left tackle in the league, Smith never allowed more than five sacks in a season, per Pro Football Focus.

Unfortunately, he dealt with numerous injuries and never could eclipse more than 13 games in his last eight seasons in the NFL.

Nonetheless, Smith will surely be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he’s first eligible for the first time in 2030.

He wouldn’t be the only Cowboys star offensive lineman to be celebrated in those festivities.

Longtime guard Zack Martin retired from the NFL in February.

Martin played alongside Smith for the overwhelming majority of his career and recorded seven first-team All-Pro nods in 11 seasons with the Cowboys.
