AMERICANS should either be counting their Social Security cash or waiting for it, but if it’s missing, there are things you can do.

Millions are set to be retroactively paid this month after loopholes denied them their checks, but there is the risk of a delay.

The US Sun reported on the late payments, which are now going out as a result of the Social Security Fairness Act passing in 2024.

Two provisions stopped 3 million Americans from getting their Social Security checks.

The US Sun reported on the two provisions at the time: the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset.

The US Sun shared the story of Ron Bonasso, just one person who was impacted.

He said: “I’m just trynna make ends meet here, it’s been no picnic.

“There’s a whole bunch of us who have been retired all these years who got schooled by Social Security.”

This month is the first that will see the cash being given out to those who are entitled to it.

The payments are worth up to $5,100, and the days you will get it is based on your birthday.

For this month, the first wave went out on Wednesday April 9 to those born between the 1st and the 10th of the month.

Wednesday, April 16 paid out the money to those born between the 11th and the 20th.

Finally, Wednesday, April 23 will be the day those born between the 21st and 31st will get their overdue Social Security payment.

The May windows will be slightly different.

Wednesday May 14 will be the day for those born between the 1st and the 10th.

May 21 is the day for those born between the 11th and the 20th.

And Wednesday May 28 is the day for those born between the 21st and 31st of the month.

DELAY RISK

But the Social Security Administration has warned of delays to payments, as reported by News Now.

If you didn’t receive your check, you should contact your bank first and foremost.

Your bank will be able to tell you if your account has any pending payments on the way.

If there is no pending payment, then contact the Social Security Administration.

Visit a local office or call the agency at 800-772-1213.

Filing a waiver with the SSA

Those who cannot afford to pay back the overpayment amounts noted by the SSA or feel they should not have to can file a specific form.

  • The form is identified as SSA-632 on the SSA website and can be filled out and submitted at a local office.
  • “If you agree that you have been overpaid, but you feel you should not have to pay it back because you did not cause the overpayment and you cannot afford to repay it, you should file Form SSA-632,” the SSA notes on its website.
  • It also lists multiple repayment options.
  • Recipients with additional questions are urged to call 1-800-772-1213.

There are many reasons why your Social Security could be delayed, and most of them are perfectly explainable reasons.

Namely, your application might not have been processed yet, or the administration is experiencing delays.

The Social Security Administration has also said that its records will not be updated until the end of the year.

It is unknown if this could cause delays, but it could cause applications to slip through the cacks.

The Social Security Administration has said: “We are expediting these cases now.

“We are releasing retroactive benefits and sending new monthly benefits amounts as we process each case, with the expectation that all beneficiary records will be updated by early November 2025.”
