“I’m confident if we work hard, continue to do this in a bi-partisan way, we’re going to get to the finish line,” said Liias.
During the Spokane City Council meeting, councilmember Michael Cathcart wrote a letter asking lawmakers not to cut the transportation budget.
“In our Spokane neighborhoods…communities historically challenged by economic hardship and underinvestment…the incomplete freeway literally hangs overhead, leaving valuable land idle, hindering critical investments, including traffic and pedestrian safety and affordable housing opportunities,” the letter began.
The council agreed to sign and send the letter to lawmakers.
But, it’s not clear if Washington governor Bob Ferguson will back the move to increase the gas tax.
