Police Address Reports Of Arresting Boko Haram Suspects In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as false a report published by a newspaper, which claimed that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects had been arrested in various parts of Lagos State.

Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, issued a statement on Thursday, stating that he ordered an immediate investigation into the publication.

The findings, according to the police, revealed that no such arrests had been made anywhere in the state.

The statement further explained that police investigations included visits to the trailer parks and communities mentioned in the report. Leaders, operators, and drivers in these areas confirmed that no Boko Haram suspects had been seen or apprehended.

In addition to these visits, surveillance detectives, the State Intelligence Department (SID), and other security units were deployed to verify the claims.

The investigation confirmed that none of the stakeholders or sources in the mentioned locations could corroborate any presence or arrest of Boko Haram suspects.

The police described the publication as “entirely false, malicious, and ill-intentioned,” intended to create unnecessary fear and tension among Lagos residents.

The police advised Lagosians to disregard the report and continue their lawful activities without fear, as the police remain committed to ensuring peace and security in the state.

The police also urged the media to verify the authenticity of information before publishing and to avoid spreading misinformation that could incite public panic.

The Lagos State Police Command assured the public of their safety and pledged to continue providing effective security across the state.
