Residents and staff at Ribble Court Care Home, Much Hoole, have launched their first ever culture month.

The home completed a month-long celebration, aimed to invite global traditions into the care home.

Ribble Court, a part of Sandstone Care, took part each week to highlight different types of cuisines, fashion, music and more, from Africa and Spain.

Abbi Street, social activities co-ordinator at Ribble Court, said: “In addition to the traditional Christian events, we always make space to recognise other cultural events such as Chinese New Year, Diwali, and Eid.

“The residents enjoy celebrating these events, and it gives them the opportunity to learn about and respect different traditions.

“We were inspired by their interest, so we thought, why not dedicate a whole month to celebrating diverse cultures from across the globe?”

The care home said the month will kept a focus specifically on Ramadan and Eid, due to their significance last month.

Home manager Dawn Fawthrop explained, “Ramadan and Eid are hugely important cultural occasions for millions, and many of our staff celebrate them.

“We want to ensure that we create a space where everyone, regardless of their faith or background, can come together and share in the celebrations.”
