SHOPPERS have officially started their “Walmart Blackout” at all 4,605 of its locations.

There isn’t just one reason why the boycott is happening, instead it’s a build-up of different things all being protested.

The social movement began on Monday and is expected to last the rest of the week, per Newsweek.

It is designed to force massive corporations to start paying its fair share of tax.

It’s also in protest of federal income tax opposition, equality issues, high prices, and a bid to help smaller local businesses as factors behind the blackout.

The strike is ran by a group called People’s Union USA.

Founder John Schwarz told Newsweek: “We’re boycotting Walmart because they’ve become the symbol of everything that’s wrong with corporate power in this country.

“Our mission is simple, we want these corporations to start paying their fair share of taxes so the American people can finally be relieved of the burden of federal income tax.

“We’re also calling for real equality, across the board, without question.

“This boycott is about showing them that we are the economy.

“We fund their success. And we can shift our money to local businesses or simply choose not to shop at all, anytime we want.

“If they want our dollars, they need to start respecting the people who keep them in business.”

In a video shared to Instagram on Friday, Schwarz added that a lot of companies “rake in billions while customers can barely afford groceries,” adding that prices have risen while wages have stagnated.

He claimed that Walmart has been “a part of the problem.”

SHOPPER SUPPORT

The leader has received support for his cause, although it is unknown how effective the strike will be.

One of his video’s viewers wrote: “We support you, John!! I do what I can from upstate NY. Keep up the resistance!!”

But at the same time, the boycott has been criticized, with some believing that it will actually just harm those who work there.

One social media user commented on Schwarz’s TikTok: “This is crazy!
