Hip hop royalty Jeru the Damaja will touch down in Preston for an unmissable gig at The Ferret.

The date is part of the 30th anniversary The Sun Rises in The East Tour, celebrating three decades of riveting performances across continents and cultures, honed to perfection.

From the streets of Brooklyn to stages worldwide, Jeru’s career is described as a testament to his unrivalled talent and showmanship. He is known for intertwining his easy humour into his shows, transforming them into an enjoyable fusion of music and comedy.

His power on stage and infectiously upbeat energy resonate in his words: “I love to rock!”.

Jeru’s career trajectory was set from his first appearance on Gang Starr’s iconic Daily Operation album, laying the groundwork for a prolific journey through hip hop’s evolving landscape.

Celebrated for his debut album, The Sun Rises In The East, Jeru’s groundbreaking work has recently been heralded by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 200 greatest albums in hip hop history, a testament to its legacy and impact on the genre.

Matt Fawbert, General Manager at The Ferret, said: “Jeru isn’t just a performance; he’s a cultural movement. His 30-year odyssey from Brooklyn’s raw streets to global stardom epitomises hip hop’s transformative power. Audiences don’t just watch a Jeru show; they live it breathlessly until the very last beat.

“Join us to celebrate three decades of groundbreaking music, limitless creativity, and an icon who continues to captivate and connect with audiences like no one else.”

Mikey D.O.N
UK hip hop pioneer MIkey D.O.N will appear at The Ferret

Jeru will be joined by Mikey D.O.N, a legend in the music scene who began his career at a very early age after getting his first turntable in 1975. He co-founded the rap group KRISPY 3 in 1986 with his brother and a friend. They were among the first UK hip hop acts to appear on BBC Radio 1 Sessions and gain heavy rotation on Yo! MTV Raps, resulting in Mikey now being humbly known as a UK hip hop pioneer.

Guest MCs from across the North West will appear in the form of Lomax + Seek The Northerner, Peggy, and JustSean R.A, and there will be live music from La French.

A pre-gig late-afternoon beer garden session will be hosted by Jazzin The Park DJs, plus there will be a late-night after-party with Big Things DJs and guests.

Jeru the Damaja’s 30th anniversary The Sun Rises in the East Tour comes to The Ferret in Fylde Road on Saturday 17 May. Priced from £25, tickets are available from The Ferret website.
