A mum-of-two from Cottam who set herself an impressive six-run challenge has completed her first event.

Kat Smith, who last month told Blog Preston of her running plans, has just taken on Blackpool Festival’s 5km in aid of Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

She ran alongside her two sisters and was cheered on by family, friends and work colleagues.

She has raised over £2,500 for the charity which is close to her heart following her treatment of bowel cancer in 2023.

After severe abdominal pain and expecting appendicitis, Kat was prescribed eight cycles of chemotherapy, before turning her bravery into the fight as she started the race challenge.

Kat talked about the treatment of staff at Rosemere Cancer Foundation and said: “I cannot fault the care and compassion from the staff I encountered during my treatment.”

Her next race of the challenge is a 10km in Tatton Park and will end with next year’s Manchester Marathon.
