New Mayor of Chorley councillor Alistair Morwood was sworn in last week.

Along with his wife Mayorness Jane Morwood, he will take over the role as Mayor from the retiring Gordon France and Margaret France.

Commenting on his appointment as Mayor, he said: “As Mayor and Mayoress, we are both looking forward to meeting and supporting as many groups as we can.

“We will take every opportunity to promote Chorley as a great place to live, work, visit and enjoy.

“It is a thriving town, with vibrant villages and beautiful countryside with fantastic history and heritage.”

Formally elected for Chorley Northeast ward in 2014, Alistair represented Astley Village, Whittle-le-Woods, and Wheelton.

Now he is still one of three councillors representing the new ward of Chorley North and Astley.

During his term, he has already opted to support and fundraise for Chorley-based organisations such as Chorley Heritage Centre and Chorley Fairtrade.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “I am delighted to congratulate Alistair on his appointment as the new Mayor of Chorley.

“His dedication and commitment to our community have been exemplary, and I am confident that his Mayorship will be a resounding success.”

To celebrate the start of the Mayoral year, Alistair Morwood led a parade through the town centre on Sunday (18 May).
