A derelict factory site in Higher Walton took significant damage due to a fire overnight.

Police and the fire service have been at the site of the former Coupe Foundry on Kittlingbourne Brow in Higher Walton since around 1.30am this morning (20 May).

Kittlingbourne Brow was closed well into the morning commuting time with no access to traffic.

The site, which was a foundry that specialised in metal castings that closed in 2015 after over 100 years in operation, has taken significant damage due to the fire – but it is now under control.

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service, Lancashire Constabulary and Cadent are all at the scene working to make it safe.

A joint investigation into the cause of the fire will soon take place, police confirmed to Blog Preston.

Blog Preston has contacted the fire service for further information.

Police continue to ask that the public avoid the area while they are in attendance.
