The countdown is on for Goosnargh and Whittingham Whitsuntide Festival, which will take place on Saturday, 31 May.

The beloved village event, which remarkably has been taking place for more than 100 years, promises a mixture of tradition, celebration and fun for the whole family.

Whitsuntide Festival organisers said: “The event promises a vibrant atmosphere packed with entertainment for all ages. Expect a spectacular parade featuring brass bands, floats, fancy dress, vintage tractors and much more.

“Don’t miss live performances from our talented maypole team and the incredible dancers of the Carol Mays Dance Academy.”

Goosnargh village green will host a family fun fair, live music and a variety of traditional attractions that bring the community spirit to life.

A highlight of the day will be the crowning of the 2025 Festival Queen, Eva Rae, by the reigning 2024 Queen, Holly Davis.

They added: “So much dedication has gone into organising this year’s festival and we can’t wait to welcome you. This is more than an event – it’s a treasured piece of village heritage you won’t want to miss.”

Road closures are confirmed for the day from 1pm to 4.45pm on Saturday (31 May).

Goosnargh Lane is closed from the junction with Mill Lane for 300 metres in a westerly direction

Mill Lane closes at Goosnargh Lane junction for 100 metres in an easterly direction

Church Lane is closed from junction with Whittingham Lane

Whittingham Lane closes from junction with Cumeragh Lane to Church Lane

Cumeragh Lane closes from junction with Whittingham Lane for 350 metres in a southerly direction

Bleasdale Road, The Square and Back Cumeragh Lane (63-93) are fully closed.

The diversion route for the above road closures will be via Goosnargh Lane, Langley Lane, Inglewhite Road, Halfpenny Lane and Cumeragh Lane in both directions.
