The US soft drink market is experiencing consistent growth, expected to reach over $467 billion in annual sales by 2030.
Soda is one of the most popular drinks in the US, with some estimates putting the average annual consumption at around 40 gallons per person.
From Coke and Pepsi to 7 Up and Canada Dry, the soft drink market is oversaturated with options – but Americans know their way around the soda aisle.
Beverage Digest, a trade publication covering the beverage industry, recently shared data revealing American consumers’ favorite soda brands last year.
The company ranked soft drinks based on each company’s sales numbers in 2024.
Classic Coke has remained in the top spot for years and once again ranked as the best selling soda brand in the country.

Pepsi also consistently ranked as the second best soft drink in terms of sales for many years, but was booted into third place by Dr Pepper in 2023.
Dr Pepper has held its spot as the second favorite carbonated beverage among Americans on the 2024 list.
Meanwhile, Coke’s Sprite brand edged out Pepsi for the third spot this year, bumping Pepsi into fourth place.
In addition to soda brands, Beverage Digest ranked other categories of non-alcoholic drinks based on their sales performance last year.
The top beverages in America in 2024 were:
- Bottled water
- Carbonated soda
- Juices and juice drinks
- Ready-to-drink tea
- Sports drinks
- Energy drinks
- Ready-to-drink coffee
COLA COMPETITION
Founded in 1892, The Coca-Cola Company is an American multinational soft drinks corporation that consistently tops the charts both nationwide and globally.
The company pulled in an astounding $47.06 billion in 2024 across its slew of beloved beverages.
The Coca-Cola Company manufactures a variety of drink products, including soft drinks, sparkling water, juice, water, sports drinks, tea, and coffee.
It is the mastermind behind some of the top names in the soda market, including:
- Coke
- Fanta
- Sprite
- Barq’s
- Mello Yello
- Pibb
- Seagrams
Its flagship brand, Coca-Cola, ranks as the best selling soda in the US year after year and is generally considered the most popular soft drink worldwide.
Late last month, top bosses at The Coca-Cola Company shared an exciting packaging change for the iconic drink at its first quarter 2025 earnings call.
Its global Share a Coke campaign, which first launched in Australia in 2011, is officially back.
As part of the campaign, the company replaces the logo on bottles and cans with popular names, nicknames, song lyrics, or locations in an effort to encourage fans to share personalized Coca-Cola products with others.
The Share a Coke campaign is rolling out around the world, ultimately encompassing more than 120 nations.
“The iconic Share a Coke is back and supercharged at a global level, celebrating the pure magic that happens when people connect,” said Islam ElDessouky, global vice president of creative strategy and content at The Coca-Cola Company, in a press release from late March.
As The Coca-Cola Company brings back its campaign, other changes are rolling out in the soft drinks market.
For example, Sprite fans are rejoicing as the “most popular” limited-edition flavor becomes permanent – and bosses say the decision was a “no brainer.”
Plus, Coca-Cola is launching a new soda with five different flavors rivaling Poppi – but fans say the “price is unacceptable.”
