Families can step into Lancashire’s past this week at the launch of a new living museum between Preston and Southport.
Becconsall Living Museum & Heritage Park, in Hesketh Bank near Tarleton, hosts its first public event on Sunday, May 18.
Taking place in collaboration with the North West Stationary Engines Association, Stationary Engines at Becconsall will involve a range of activities designed to offer something for all ages.

Visitors can explore a fascinating exhibition of historic stationary engines, enjoy guided tours of the Nature Trail, and take part in fun family-friendly activities. There’ll be a shop on site selling drinks and snacks, and the site is on-lead dog-friendly.
The event will run from 10am-5pm and marks the official opening weekend for the new non-profit heritage site, which will now be open every weekend post-event, with more events and activities throughout the year.
The museum and heritage park combines Lancashire’s industrial past with environmental and educational work, offering a space where history, nature, and community meet.
As part of the celebrations, visitors will also be able to view the community time capsule ahead of its summer burial event.
Raffle tickets will be on sale to win the chance to choose something to go inside the capsule and attend the burial as a VIP guest.
Emily Jane Cowan, museum manager, said: “We’re proud to welcome the public to our very first event. This event is just the beginning – we want Becconsall to become a space for our community to learn, explore, and connect with our roots, right here in the heart of West Lancashire.”
