Longridge’s new Reform UK county councillor said people wanted change after overturning a large Conservative majority.
Ian Duxbury won the Longridge with Bowland division as Reform took control of Lancashire County Council on a day in which the traditional main parties were utterly rejected by voters.
Duxbury won 1,534 votes, some 500 ahead of the second placed Labour candidate with the Conservatives pushed into third.

Speaking to Blog Preston immediately after the result, he said: “People have had enough of the old system, they want something different, something fresh. They actually want politicians they can believe in.”
He added: “One of the things to say to the people of Longridge with Bowland is firstly thank you for supporting me but also that I will never lie. I’ll always be totally honest with people and I’ll also do my very best to support people in the district.”
While voters may be expecting radical change, Duxbury offered some caution about when asked what will happen next, saying “small steps” would follow.
“Everything has to begin somewhere and I’m hoping that by what’s happening today both here in Lancashire and across the country that this will be the start of the change process that needs to be had.”
