Preston is continuing to see intense congestion as delays are felt after the M6 closure on Thursday morning.
A lorry fire shut the M6 southbound and then partially closed it for around four hours while emergency services worked at the scene.
The build-up of traffic on the city’s road network and also on the M55 coming from Blackpool is still being felt.

Traffic England is reporting delays of at least half-an-hour from Junction 2 of the M55 for Edith Rigby Way towards the Broughton interchange and this is likely to last until around 8pm this evening.

The M6 southbound is then busy from Junction 32 down to the M61 junction.
Motorists are also reporting long delays around Preston Docks as drivers divert off down Edith Rigby Way and try to cut through Preston, to Penwortham or London Road, and then down onto the A6/A582 and motorway junctions.
Many drivers have been reporting that Google and other sat navs are still showing the M6 as closed or partially blocked – despite the motorway closure being lifted at 2.30pm on Thursday.
Four fire engines were sent to the scene of the lorry fire on Thursday morning to put out the blaze, they then worked with fire crews to recover the smouldering lorry.
