A teenage boy has died after getting into difficulty in the River Wyre on Saturday.

Lancashire Police confirmed they were called to the river near to Garstang Cricket Club.

Reports had come in of a boy, aged 15, who had got into difficulty in the water and was being treated by members of the public who rushed to help.

Despite being given CPR by bystanders and airlifted to hospital, in a critical condition, the teenage boy died during Sunday 18 May.

A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly distressing time.”
