Plans have been submitted to build a music studio and campsite on a rural plot near Beacon Fell.

Submitted by John Macdonald, of Penwortham, the plans relate to a site on Delph Lane, Oakenclough, Bleasdale and seek to use the farmland as a campsite while also converting an existing agricultural shed into a recording studio.

If approved, three glamping pods and a timber lodge would be installed, with the latter housing a site office, shop and welfare facilities, while permission is also sought for a change of use of the existing agricultural building into a music studio and associated overnight accommodation.

The design and access statement relating to the plans states: “The recording studio offers long-stay recording opportunities which can range in length from four days to a full month, with users being on-site for the entirety of their booking.

“The studio will operate Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am and 6pm, with recording taking
place Monday to Thursday and Fridays being reserved for computer work. Only one act will be able to book at a time.

“In addition to the performer(s), a producer and sound engineer will also be on-site for the duration of recording. The remainder of the building will provide overnight accommodation, including an open plan kitchen and living space, a bedroom and a bathroom.

“Additional accommodation is available to the music studio users on the campsite.”

Under the proposals, the campsite would be open to members of the public from Friday to Sunday. Grass tent pitches, bell tents and caravan pitches will be available for the public to book in the summer season only.

The glamping pods and hardstanding pitches will be available to book throughout the year, it says.

The site has a long planning history dating back more than a decade. While the five hardstanding caravan pitches were approved in 2011, applications to build cattle sheds and even turn the site into a doggy day care facility have all been rejected in the intervening 14 years.
