A new train service will offer more options for Prestonians wanting to head north or south on the rail network.

Lumo, which is part of FirstGroup, will offer five daily return services running from Stirling to London Euston with Preston Railway Station one of the stops.

The company claims that its services are known for their affordability and efficiency, although fare prices for their new West Coast Mainline services have not yet been confirmed. Travel from London to Edinburgh on a Lumo service starts at £19.90 if booked in advance.

Services between Preston and London Euston are currently managed by Avanti West Coast and those journeys will still be in place.

Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Lumo, said: “Today’s announcement underscores Lumo’s commitment to growing Scotland’s rail network, providing passengers with more affordable, fast, and convenient travel options.

“Our new service between Stirling and London has the potential to unlock significant economic opportunities for communities along the route, and we’re proud to deliver this direct rail connectivity to towns previously overlooked by traditional rail services. We are focused on further expanding our services in Scotland to ensure even greater connectivity across the country and the whole UK.”

The services are scheduled to be in place from Spring 2026.
