Last year St Mary Street was shut for eight months and Electricity North West say the road will be closed from July this year until Christmas.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “Teams of engineers have started the next phase of a major £2m project which will see various assets at the local substation on Henrietta Street replaced and upgraded.
“For safety reasons and due to limited space on Henrietta Street, a closure will be in place on St Mary’s Street so vehicles can operate and move equipment safely.
“All of the work has been agreed with the local council in advance and a closure is in place until the end of the year.”
The St Mary’s Street closure is expected to begin the week beginning Monday 7 July.

All businesses in St Mary’s Street are open as usual and are accessible from the Ribbleton Lane end, there is no vehicle or pedestrian access from the New Hall Lane end.
