The biggest night in the theatre calendar took place in New York last night, as the red carpet was rolled out for the Tony Awards.

Hosted by Wicked fave Cynthia Erivo, the night welcomed some of the biggest names from the stage world in the last 12 months – including a host of A-listers and true icons from the theatre world.

Unfortunately, unlike many other major US awards shows, the Tonys is a bit of a tough one to watch here in the UK.

However, we’ve managed to round up some of the night’s top moments, so you don’t need to feel like you’ve missed out. Enjoy…

Cynthia Erivo roped in some famous guests to help sprinkle some showbiz magic into her opening number

The A-listers just kept on showing up for Cynthia, as the Wicked star also shared two very special moments with Oprah Winfrey as the night unfolded

After one of the tightest Best Actress In A Musical races in recent memory, it was Nicole Scherzinger who came out on top

The Sunset Blvd star also delivered a knock-out performance

As did her fellow nominee (and, lest we forget, six-time winner) Audra McDonald, giving us all this show-stopping Rose’s Turn

Succession star Sarah Snook is now a Tony winner, who famously played all 26 characters in a recent production of The Picture Of Dorian Gray

And – one for the Gleeks out there – so is Darren Criss

In fact, his show Maybe Happy Ending (a musical about two AI bots who fall in love) was the night’s top winner, picking up six awards in total

One of this year’s British winners was Operation Mincemeat’s Jak Malone, who made a poignant point during his speech

Cole Escola picked up Best Actor for their play Oh Mary! – becoming the first person to win this award for a production they’d written since Harvey Fierstein – and was as irreverent as we’d hoped with their acceptance speech

The fact they were presented with their award by Jean Smart and Sarah Paulson was just the cherry on top

And speaking of Pride month… shall we talk about this Megan Hilty performance? Incredible (side note: we need Death Becomes Her to transfer to the West End yesterday)

Drag Race fans were delighted to spot two-time champion (and, let’s just say it, future Tony winner) Jinkx Monsoon performing as part of the Pirates Of Penzance cast

Harvey Fierstein, the legend that you are…

In the space of just a few months, costume designer Paul Tazewell won both an Oscar for Wicked and Tony for Death Becomes Her, which we think is pretty damn fabulous

Meanwhile, Hamilton’s special 10-year anniversary performance gave Broadway fans the world over chills (and yes, LTW’s husband was the OG George Washington)

Cynthia Erivo brought the night to a close with this dramatic reinvention of And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going – and everyone had one favourite line in particular
