The biggest night in the theatre calendar took place in New York last night, as the red carpet was rolled out for the Tony Awards.
Hosted by Wicked fave Cynthia Erivo, the night welcomed some of the biggest names from the stage world in the last 12 months – including a host of A-listers and true icons from the theatre world.
Unfortunately, unlike many other major US awards shows, the Tonys is a bit of a tough one to watch here in the UK.
However, we’ve managed to round up some of the night’s top moments, so you don’t need to feel like you’ve missed out. Enjoy…
Cynthia Erivo roped in some famous guests to help sprinkle some showbiz magic into her opening number

The A-listers just kept on showing up for Cynthia, as the Wicked star also shared two very special moments with Oprah Winfrey as the night unfolded

After one of the tightest Best Actress In A Musical races in recent memory, it was Nicole Scherzinger who came out on top

I haven't seen her performance, but I did get to interview Nicole Scherzinger once and she was delightful, lovely, humble, but she also clearly felt like she had something to prove. There was something more she wanted us to see in her. I'm so happy she got this moment. https://t.co/xghm8x8UrV

Clearly someone in the crew salty about Nicole Scherzinger winning.
When have we EVER see them go to the wrong person after the winner is announced? In any awards show.
Especially the biggest award of the night. https://t.co/pIlOqSlF5gpic.twitter.com/AhSIjir1z6

One of this year’s British winners was Operation Mincemeat’s Jak Malone, who made a poignant point during his speech
“8 shows a week i play a woman onstage. and if you found yourself believing in hester, you have just bid farewell to those rotten old binaries and opened yourself up to a world that is already out there in glorious technicolor and is not going away anytime soon!” 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️#TonyAwardspic.twitter.com/gKeTPrJjXy

Cole Escola picked up Best Actor for their play Oh Mary! – becoming the first person to win this award for a production they’d written since Harvey Fierstein – and was as irreverent as we’d hoped with their acceptance speech
thanking "T-Bo from Grindr" during your acceptance speech is the funniest shit i've ever heard.
Cole Escola the legend that you are. #TonyAwardspic.twitter.com/paKjRxSRZX

I love that Cole Escola thanked T Bone from Grinder 😂 and Amy Sedaris for “always making sure to remind me how important she is to me” in their acceptance speech for “Oh, Mary!”
— Chris Wallenberg (@chriswallenberg) June 9, 2025
Words can’t express how truly moved and thrilled I am that Cole Escola won. And not just because was a terrific speech.
— Adam Feldman (@FeldmanAdam) June 9, 2025
They should’ve allotted ten minutes for Cole Escola’s speech

Only thing this Cole Escola acceptance speech was missing was a plea for Ariana Grande to come back to Broadway. #TonyAwards

The fact they were presented with their award by Jean Smart and Sarah Paulson was just the cherry on top

Harvey Fierstein, the legend that you are…
Harvey Fierstein – through tears – just gave an all-timer kind of acceptance speech while accepting his Lifetime Tony Award

In the space of just a few months, costume designer Paul Tazewell won both an Oscar for Wicked and Tony for Death Becomes Her, which we think is pretty damn fabulous

Cynthia Erivo just got a standing ovation by closing the Tonys with her version of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." she changed the lyrics to be about tonight's ceremony
