Aerial pictures show the demolition work beginning on the side of a bridge which links Preston and Longridge.

Skew Bridge, in Grimsargh, is subject to five months of roadworks as a new widened bridge is put in place.

Lancashire County Council is undertaking the £2.2million government-funded scheme saying the Preston Road congestion caused by the narrow road over the bridge needs easing to allow two vehicles, particularly buses, to pass at one time.

Temporary traffic lights began in Grimsargh over the bridge on Monday 21 July and are to last until the end of October.

Local residents have reported queues at peak times with the county council vowing contractors will manually operate the lights to ease congestion.

Mark Ashmmore has captured these aerial pictures showing the work site at Skew Bridge as the work gets started over the summer months.

A full closure of the bridge is planned for the October half-term (running from Friday 24 October to Sunday 2 November) and the temporary traffic lights are to run until then.

An overnight closure of the bridge is also planned for Wednesday 17 September into Thursday 18 September.
