Motorists going between Longridge and Preston are being warned to expect double delays from next week.

As well as temporary traffic lights beginning on Grimsargh Bridge at Preston Road another set of roadworks will begin on one of the potential routes to avoid Skew Bridge.

Signs have gone up warning of three weeks of disruption outside Aldi in Longridge.

The works are due to take place in Whittingham Road on the stretch between Mosses Farm Road and The Ridings. A diversion will be in place via Halfpenny Lane.

A Lancashire County Council spokesperson said: “A private construction company has been granted permission for a licence to repair part of the infrastructure at this location on the public highway.”

Asked why the county council had approved these at the same time as the Preston Road works, they responded: “Where possible, we work with companies to mitigate the impact of roadworks and to coordinate with our own works.”

Grimsargh Bridge is seeing five months of works begin to wide the bridge – with three months of temporary lights due and then a full closure planned for the October half-term.
