Two University of Lancashire students, Hallie Boulton and Nicholas Wedderman, have been selected to represent Team GB in the upcoming FISU Summer World University Games.

The students were chosen to be a part of the national squad after performances during the British Universities and Colleges Sport Season.

Set to take place from 16 July to 27 July in Germany, twenty-year-old archer, Hallie from Wigan and discus thrower Nicholas from Croydon both shared their excitement for the upcoming competition.

Hallie said: “I felt really excited when I found out I’d been selected. This is one of the biggest competitions that I’ve been selected to shoot at. I will have the opportunity to compete in a team of three with my other teammates, as well as individually.

“I will also have the potential opportunity to compete in a mixed team, depending on how qualification goes, as it is the highest-ranking male and female that make the mixed team.”

MSc Nutrition and Exercise Sciences student, Nicholas, shared that he only got into throwing discus in 2021 when facilities started opening up after Covid.

He mentioned that before he threw the discus, he played rugby and ran 100m. However, after feeling burnt out from sport, he decided to shift to an alternative skill.

Remaining optimistic for the competition, Nicholas said: “I’m looking forward to wearing the Great Britain vest for the first time. It’s nice to have something tangible to show in these four years, and the Great Britain selection is great to show everyone I’m actually at a high level – this isn’t just a hobby.
