Rob Carruthers and Dan Rawlinson are training to take on the 24-hour Tough Mudder to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and The Christie, both of which have provided life-saving support to some of their closest friends and families.
The Tough Mudder is an endurance obstacle course, involving participants running 5-mile loops with various challenges and obstacles thrown in. The aim is to complete as many loops as possible within a 24-hour period.
The pair are training for the event which will take place 27 – 28 June 2026.

Rob said, “We’re two overweight guys on a mission – getting fit, pushing our limits, and training to take on a 24-hour Tough Mudder challenge.
“We’ve set up an Instagram page to raise money for two incredible charities that mean a lot to us personally: Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and The Christie.
“Some of our closest friends have relied on these amazing organisations recently, and we wanted to give something back. So, we’re putting ourselves through the mud (literally) to do it.”

For Rob and Dan, who are new to such extreme challenges, the journey to a 24-hour Tough Mudder represents a significant personal feat. They’re starting their intensive training with the NHS Couch to 5k regime, steadily building their fitness for the epic event ahead.
“While our journey will involve months of physical training, injuries, setbacks, and mental hurdles, we are constantly reminded that our temporary pain is nothing compared to the ongoing, life altering struggles faced by those these charities help.”

Their ambition extends beyond completing the challenge and raising funds. Rob and Dan hope their story will resonate with others and inspire a wider community to get involved. They believe that even small acts of support can collectively make a huge impact.
Rob said: “Through this challenge, we hope to do more than just raise money. We want to raise awareness, to honour the bravery of those we’re running for, and to inspire others to take action — in whatever way they can — to support causes that truly matter.”
Rob and Dan will be sharing their journey on their social media @mud.sweat.tears.and.beers.
Rob said: “This isn’t just a fitness endeavour. It’s a mission of purpose, and we would be honoured to have people follow, support, and join us in making a tangible difference.”
