Police are investigating whether a woman was murdered inside her home in Melbourne's outer east after they arrested a man at the crime scene.

Zoe Walker, 38, was found dead in her home on Seaby Avenue in Upper Ferntree Gully after police were called to the address just before 8am.

A 46-year-old Upper Ferntree Gully man was arrested at the scene.

Walker was found dead in her home by police just before 8am yesterday.

A 46-year-old man known to Walker was arrested at the scene.

Police spent several hours at the home today after guarding the front of the property overnight.

Detectives this afternoon searched cars parked in the driveway.

Homicide Squad detectives are expected to interview the man over Walker's death.

Police understand the pair are known to each other.
