Preston is under a government issued heat-health weather alert this week as temperatures are set to reach 28C.

The health alert – in place for the North West – is at yellow level and it is not forecast to be as intense as in the south.

The warning for the North West is in place from 9am tomorrow (12 August) until 6pm on Wednesday (13 August).

The Met Office is forecast sunshine until the end of the week with temperatures typically sitting at around 25C.

Tom Crabtree, Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Warmth is the focus in the forecast in the first half of this week, with temperatures likely to peak on Tuesday around the mid-30s, but remaining above average in the second half of the week, particularly further to the southeast.

“The exception to the widely warm conditions will be northwest Scotland on Monday, where showers will be more frequent. Warmth will develop there from Tuesday with temperatures peaking in the mid to high 20s.”
