The High Court in Pretoria will hear the appeal of the late former Zambian president Edgar Lungu‘s family on Friday.
Almost a week ago, the court ruled that the government of the southern African country was within its rights to repatriate the body of Lungu for a state funeral and burial.
Lungu died in Pretoria in June at the age of 68.
The court based its decision on, among other things, its conclusion that there was an enforceable agreement between the Lungu family and the Zambian government over his repatriation. It also found that the personal wishes of the family could not outweigh the public interest of Zambia and its people.
The Lungu family will argue in its bid for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein that the full court made a series of errors in its judgment.
