Two men and a boy have been arrested after police stopped a car on the M6 southbound.

Police stopped a black Volkswagen travelling southbound on the M6 at around 11.30pm on Wednesday (27 August).

The car and those within were searched with the help of a police dog and around £20,000 in cash was discovered.

The driver, 36 from Leeds, and passengers, 34 from St Helens and 16 from Leeds, were arrested on suspicion of money laundering. They are in custody.

A spokesperson for police said: “Yesterday at around 11:30pm, officers from our Roads Crime Team were travelling southbound along the M6 when they had reason to stop a black Volkswagen Sharan.

“The car, the driver and the passengers were searched under section 23 of the misuse of drugs act, and with the help of Police Dog Buddy, approximately £20,000 cash was found.

“The driver, a 36 year old man from Leeds, and the passengers, a 34 year old man from St Helens and a 16 year old boy from Leeds have been arrested on suspicion of money laundering. They are currently in custody.”
