Organisers of Longridge Soap Box Derby have praised the efforts of volunteers after the fourth running of the race attracted large crowds to the town.

Held on Sunday, 14 September, Berry Lane in Longridge was once again transformed into an obstacle-strewn racetrack for the brave of heart to negotiate.

With local firm Raymond James Ribble Valley and SPAR, through its association with James Hall and Co, as headline sponsors, the event was well supported and raised a significant amount of money for St Catherine’s Hospice.

Writing on Facebook, Gary Ward, chairman of Love Longridge, which organises the event, said: “We always (and rightly) thank the businesses that sponsor us, lend equipment, and provide the financial support without which the Derby simply couldn’t happen. But today I want to shine a light on the volunteers.

“So many give their time, energy, skills and even money simply because they care about Longridge – and while it’s impossible to name everyone, every single one of you is a hero.

“Thank you to everyone who made Derby Day 2025 such a success. What a town. What a community. What a team.”

And the soap box derby proved a big hit with local businesses such as Pendle Hill Properties, which has premises towards the bottom of Berry Lane.

Tom Turner, sales director at Pendle Hill Properties, said the event was a great example of what made the area ‘so special’.

“It brings people together, showcases incredible creativity and creates a real sense of fun and pride,” he said. “We’re delighted to be involved in such a wonderful event and to support the community spirit that makes Longridge thrive.”
